Smell the fish
Sometimes you have to disconnect and just get outdoors. We live in a pretty awesome state, and there are lots of places you can sneak away to that are close to home. Monday night we decided at 7:30pm that we were going to go fishing…we loaded up the poles and tackle box and went to Mead Ponds in Mead – these ponds are a little gem hidden away in a little farming community.
The teenager was reluctant to go – there are of course many other things a teenage boy can find to do than to go fishing with Mom and Dad, but he finally decided to go, laced up his shoes, and then got excited about getting a fish all the way into shore before it broke free…So now his friends get to hear about the 20 incher that got away!
I am trying to get a walk/run challenge in, so I chose to walk the ponds instead of fish that night, but I also like to take pictures, and happened to keep coming up on a Blue Heron, he was not happy (but really, he kept landing right in front of me), but I was lucky enough to have a glass lake and a perfect cell phone shot of him taking off.
What memories did you make today? It’s important sometimes to disconnect and get away – fishing, camping and hunting are all great times to bond with your family!
