Ahhh Spring
Are you getting the itch to camp yet? I know that I am, only, my RV is still in “process” as we are undergoing a built from scratch RV (we are converting an enclosed trailer to one with living quarters….but that’s a different story)!
If you are pulling your RV out of the long cold winter storage there are a few things that you should check before that next trip:
1. Tires – check your tire pressure, check the tires for dry rot – sometimes your tires may look good at first glance, but upon closer inspection, there may be hairline cracks in the sidewalls, these cracks are the culprits of many a tire blow out! Also, check the date code on the tires – most tire gurus recommend that replace your tires before they hit the 10 year mark.
2. Plumbing system – make sure that you pressure up your system and check for leaks before you take off, It’s never a fun day to pull into your campsite, and start drippnig grey water, or find that you a leak behind your toilet. We also recommend flushing your water system with Spring Fresh to help freshen it up for the season (this is especially good if you are on well water).
3. Check your propane system for leaks – soapy spray down all connections, and schedule for a gas pressure check to make sure none of your appliances are leaking.
4. Wheel Bearings – Wheel bearings should be checked and/or packed every 3000 -4000 miles or every 2 years – if it is a single axle, you should be checking them more often. Even if you have Zert fittings, you should still do a total change out of the grease every couple years, this also helps to ensure that you don’t have too much grease in the wheels.
Checking these few things will get you off to a good start, and remember, give yourself plenty of time to get these checks done (whether doing them yourself or hiring us to do them), as you dont’ want to be heading out of town in a day and then you have an emergency fix!
