RV FRIDGE’S!
RV fridge’s are tricky little creatures…they can work wonderful or they can be a glorified ice box. What should you do to make sure your fridge is in top condition for the season?
- Get it serviced at least once a year – get a gas pressure test (to make sure that you are getting enough pressure), blow out all the spider, wasp and mouse nests, adjust the flames, and do a general inspection of the cooling unit.
- Make sure that you are giving your fridge ample time to cool down BEFORE loading it with food. You will want to have your camper plugged in to shore power (or cooling on Propane) for at least 8 hours prior to loading it.
- Before loading your food, make sure you are getting close to the desired temp in both the freezer and the fridge
- If you can cool your food before loading it (ie Pop) that will help keep the temp steady as well.
- Don’t overload the fridge – make sure that there is room for the air to circulate – you can also buy mini battery operated fridge fans to help move the air.
- Make sure that your camper is fairly level.
- If the back of your camper is facing the hot sun all day, then your cooling will be affected big time, try to park so the fridge isn’t in direct sun for long periods of time. If you do have to park in the sun, or you have a small fridge (like in a popup or slide in) then you might want to consider installing a fan in the back of the unit to help keep it cooler.
